Sherpa Owners Rally at De Rust Caravan Park

Business | News
Sherpa owners got together for a winter rally at De Rust Caravan Park in the Dinokeng Reserve in June.  A lovely restful time was had by all with all the Sherpa models on show from the Sherpa Tiny to the Sherpa Tiny Rough Roader, the Rambler as well as a Wanderer.  The De Rust Caravan Park was ideal for the rally with its large open spaces and choice of shaded or sunny spots.  These Sherpa owners rallies are becoming very popular with owners meeting fellow campers, swapping ideas and getting advice.  They are happening around the country and another one will be organised once this third wave of the pandemic is over.

Fish Eagle is a lovely camp site on a working farm. It is a wonderful campsite to form a laager and has lovely grass, no need for a groundsheet and sufficient have braai drums. There is a small swimming pool and the river for fishing. The ablutions were neat, clean and have a constant supply of hot water, toilet paper and hand soap and sanitizer. All members rated this camp as being one we will come back to soon.

We arrived at the farm off the R44. On arrival the Bohme and Watkyns were set up and relaxing. After we arrived and started setting up everyone slowly arrived. Mathew, Charlotte, baby Luan and friends arrived in the dark, but with help from fellow campers managed to erect the trailer and friends’ tent. Although there is a slight slope on the edge towards the river it did not seem to affect anyone parking their van. There was no storage of babysitters for Luan and what a lovely little boy always smiling.

Friday’s day temperature was warm and the campers after relaxing went about making their fires for supper. Later we saw a line of lights in the sky which turned out to be Elon Musk’s ‘Starlink’ Satellites (https://www.forbes.com/sites/jonathanocallaghan/2020/04/21/what-are-those-strange-moving-lights-in-the-night-sky-elon-musks-starlink-satellites-explained/) Around 21:00 the temperature dropped to freezing cold and everyone slowly made their way to bed for warmth.

Saturday morning was beautiful clear skies with fish eagles flying above the camp and after the sun was out it was really hot. Some people went to have breakfast and explored around Ribeek Kasteel and Ribeek West. Ribeek Kasteel is a quaint town which the tourists love for all its shops, galleries and pubs. Riebeek West is a one-horse town – don’t blink you have gone through it. Saturday morning Mark and Johanna had to take their daughter, Jennifer, who was visiting from Switzerland to the airport. It was lovely to Jennifer again.

Saturday morning we saw the Blue Train passing by on its way up country. On Saturday afternoon prior to the AGM meeting there was cheese and wine supplied by Freddy and Jackie which went down well. Kevin was nearby watching the Stormers loose. The AGM meeting went off without a hitch and the laager meeting followed. The braai drums were bought into the middle of the camp and fires lit for all to braai. What a lovely gathering and much laughter until around 22:00 when the temperature dropped, and campers made their way to slowly bed.

Sunday morning was another beautiful hot day and some campers sat around chatting and others started packing up slowly. What a pleasant camp and such beautiful weather.

See u at the next camp. Stay Safe.

L3 - Mountain Breeze

Club | News
Mountain Breeze Resort, Stellenbosch is a wonderful campsite with lots of pine trees for shade. The plots are level and no grass due to the trees but not a problem unless it really rains. There is a lovely swimming pool for the summer. The ablutions are neat, clean and have a constant supply of hot water and hand soap and sanitizer. Campers must supply their own toilet paper. All campers enjoyed this camp, just a pity the present owners lease is expiring end of June 2021. We just have to wait to see what happens to the present campsite
